In March, Tom applied for a job. It was on a whim, fully and completely anticipating he wouldn't even get a call back because he wasn't qualified for it (on paper, anyway).
In April, he got an interview and was hired the next week. It's a great deal. Salary's good, benefits good, room for advancement, it's a place with secure future, and a not-for-profit.
Only catch (and, no offence Tom, probably the reason they had trouble recruiting someone for the position) it's in rather rural north eastern Oregon.
So we moved, suddenly and unexpectedly. I was planting my garden on March 20th, and I didn't even get to see it sprout.
Well, I should say that Tom moved up there, I and my dog moved in with my parents so I could keep working for a while. I spent four months in a bit of limbo. Don't get me wrong, mom and dad are great, they even fed me and did my laundry for free! It was just awkward (also: no internet or cell signal at their house, which is why blog posting difficulties).
Now I'm in a different kind of limbo. I'm living in a new place and I'm unemployed. I'm not bored, I've got enough projects to catch up on but... let's say I'm still adjusting.
Something that helps with that adjustment: Tom just got a raise. He's now making more than I was at OSU, and he doesn't even have a college degree. Punk.
Here, have some random photos of my new home:
